student body and
reduce distractions to
the academic program.

Plain, standard polo shirts or turtlenecks in solid navy blue, white, hunter green or light blue are permitted. Shirts may not have striped collars or sleeves. Short or long sleeves are acceptable. Only a small manufacturer's logo (1" x 3" or less) or a Valley Academy logo is permitted. Any undershirt that is worn beneath a shirt (and is still visible) must be white or match the color of the outer garment. Long-sleeved shirts may be worn under Spirit Day shirts or short-sleeved uniform shirts. Shirts must be tucked in at all times. V.A. Team and Spirit shirts may be worn on Spirit Days.

Slacks/Pants

They must have straight legs, be hemmed, and have a well-fitted waistband. No side stripes, bell-bottoms, hip-huggers, cargo pants, or carpenter pants, please. The fabric should be cotton, cotton blend, polyester blend or corduroy. For grades K-2, elastic waists are permitted. If pants have belt loops, a belt must be worn.

Shorts
Shorts must be solid navy blue or khaki (beige) and should be uniform style. Must be no shorter than middle of the thigh and no longer than middle of the knee. They should have a waistband and belt loops (except for grades K-2). No cargo styles, please.

Skirts, Skorts, and Jumpers
These articles of clothing must be solid navy blue or khaki (beige). They must be no shorter than 4" from the middle of the knee. K-6 graders are encouraged to wear shorts under their skirts. Jumpers must be worn over approved shirts.

Outerwear
Plain, non-hooded sweatshirts, cardigan sweaters, or windbreakers worn over polo or turtlenecks must be solid white, navy blue, hunter green, or light blue. Only a small manufacturer's logo (1" x 3" or less) or Valley Academy logo is permitted. The collar must be visible at the neckline. No other outwear may be worn in the classroom. Outwear may not extend past the knee or be shorter than the waist.

Girls may wear tights/hose in solid neutral colors such as white, navy blue, black, hunter green or khaki. Footless tights/hose may not be worn.

It is recommended that boys be clean shaven and have hair cut above the ears and length above the collar. A simple pair of earrings may be worn in the lobes or not more than a simple pair of stud earrings in the cartilage of the ears. For safety reasons, hoops must wrap snugly around the ear lobe. Students may wear a single strand necklace (no chokers), a ring, wrist bracelet (no sweatbands), and basic wristwatch. Students will be permitted to wear only light, natural makeup. No glitter, mascara, eye shadow, or eye liner is permitted. Only clear, pale pink, pale beige, or French-style plain nail polish is permitted. No false nails. Makeup and nail polish must not be brought to school. Only clear (no tint) chapstick or lip gloss is permitted in the school. Permanent and temporary tattoos are not permitted.

Inappropriate attire is not limited to the above. Administration and teachers have discretion to make administrative decisions on inappropriate clothing and accessories. This policy may be adjusted if stricter guidelines are required or if standards detract from the learning environment.
